Main objective: The project is an attempt to combine tradition and innovation in order to strengthen the economy of a productive sector - the artistic, utilitarian and technical glass sector - which is the genesis of the main industrial clusters in the Leiria region. This project is based on the direct digital manufacture of glass components using a comprehensive methodology that integrates various manufacturing, design, control, management, information and communication and other networked approaches in line with those of the 4th industrial revolution. As such, this project includes the development and design of an innovative piece of equipment - Add.Glass, which will make it possible to incorporate new design solutions, combining the art of working with glass with the use of new computational tools and additive manufacturing.
Additive manufacturing technologies applied to the production of glass pieces undoubtedly represent a paradigm shift in production methods. Their application in the artistic, utilitarian and technical glass sector will provide an increase in highly skilled technological labor and a reduction in production time and energy bills.
